How Should I Pack My Waterbed?

In order to be able to move your waterbed as safely and securely as possible, the bed needs to be completely drained first. If you have a fiber-filled waterbed, you will need to make sure it is vacuum drained by a professional well before moving day. Here are some tips that can make this job go easier.

  • Put treatment in the mattress several days before it is drained if you plan on storing it for an extended period of time. Otherwise, the inside of the mattress could sour and be unusable. The amount of time the mattress can stay in storage depends on how good of a job you do draining and packing it, as well as the conditions in the facility you’re using.
  • If you have a tube-type of mattress, you can simply carry it to your bathtub or sink. You can also take it outside. All you have to do to drain this a tube mattress is open the fill valve and maneuver the mattress until all the water is gone.
  • If you have a full motion mattress, wrap it or put it in a box for full protection. If you use tape, make sure you never apply it to the mattress to reduce the chances of a tear forming.
